I’ve never been a fan of sub-HD screens, so it’s nice to see that more and more entry level handsets are coming out with sharper screens. Today’s latest example is the Cherry Mobile Flare HD 2, a 5 inch HD handset with a quad core processor, 1GB RAM, and 8GB of internal storage. The best part? Probably that Php2,999 sticker price.

Unfortunately, the Flare HD 2 doesn’t come with support for 4G/LTE, but it does come with mostly everything else you would need on a proper smartphone. There’s a reasonably sharp 8mp shooter on the back to go with the 5mp selfie camera in front. It also only runs Lollipop 5.1 out of the box with 2,000mAh of juice to power it. Sure, it’s hard to complain about a Php3k smartphone with decent specs, but it would have been nice if it ran Marshmallow 6.0 instead.
