The Philippines has a rich conservation of folk music. The Filipinos are music lovers. Music is a way for them to express their feelings and aspirations in life. Filipino folks clearly and lucidly express their experiences and dreams through these songs. Among the most popular traditional folk songs are

We all know that Philippines is an archipelago so almost every island has its own folk song embedded in their culture.

An example is “Dandansoy“, an Ilonggo folk song that is sung by even non-Illonggos. It’s about the singer saying goodbye to Dansoy as he chases after a girl.

Pamulinawen is an Ilocano folk song.  Ilocano is another language very distinct from Tagalog.

Atin Cu Pung Singsing is a  popular Kapampangan folk song. Kapampangan is a language spoken in Pampanga province.


Lawiswis Kawayan is a Waray folk song. Waray or Winaray is a language spoken in Samar, Leyte and Biliran in the Visayas region of the Philippines. It is not Tagalog.
